What is NEW BREED?
"New Breed is about the next generation. The turning of a page. The continuing journey of KAYZO and the constant progression of evolution of my sound within the many layers of what makes me who I am. Pushing myself and others to continue blur the lines of what we know as dance music and what we know as rock. Meeting in this grey area of the two worlds and not knowing what side is what. New Breed is the shedding of the old and celebrating what's to come. "
As one of the decade’s fastest rising electronic artists, KAYZO is a pioneer of the dance/rock crossover scene, with hard-hitting songs, rebellious live performances and die-hard global fans.
After winning Insomniac’s Discovery Project in 2012, KAYZO caught fire in the scene. His rework of Papa Roach’s Last Resort broke barriers between mainstream electronic and heavy metal. He’s performed at Coachella, Bonnaroo, Tomorrowland and Lollapalooza alongside the likes of Alex Gaskarth, Knife Party and Tommy Lee.
Blazing a thriving home for rocktronic music, he launched Welcome Records in 2018. That year, his debut album, OVERLOAD, carved shows in Southeast Asia and Europe. KAYZO’s explosive 2019 sparked a 15-track sophomore album, Unleashed, featuring Of Mice & Men and Matty Mullins of Memphis May Fire. His Unleashed Live tour set off with Sum 41 drummer Frank Zummo across 12 North American cities. Recent songs like Suffocate (with Bad Omens) and DOMINATION (with Papa Roach and Sullivan King) have accumulated millions of plays.
In June 2022, KAYZO is set to release his latest album, NEW BREED, showing his talents of intertwining a rock and electronic feel. With features from GHØSTKID, Siiickbrain, conner, and more he seamlessly blends the two genres bringing a feel of nostalgia all while creating something new.
From bands in the studio to flames on stage, KAYZO’s continuous growth serves as a modern interpretation of heavy metal’s parallel with dubstep’s electrifying bass.

KAYZO - POSER WITH CONNER
(June 03 2022)
1. Underground:
Amid the flurry of shows and festivals coming back all at once, I had the urge to create a new song that would be an intro to my live sets. I've done this before where I've written something original in the arrangement of some super long intense intro. Underground started like that for me. At first it was everything up until the drop, and I had just mashed it up with another song, but I knew after playing it out a few times I had to turn it into a full blown song. I wanted it to tell the story of Kayzo throughout the years in one song. From the rock to the four on the floor hard stuff mixed in with half time dubstep, I feel like it ended up embodying the rest of the album in a spark note version, which is why I chose for it to be the first song on New Breed.
2. CYBER DETHHH:
Just like Underground, Cyber Dethhh started out as a dj tool that I started on the road. I wanted something super gritty and experimental in the sound design. It took me a while but eventually I was able to create sounds that felt like a Cyber Dethhh, and quickly it became one of the most sought out electronic IDs from the album.
3. The Sickness
has one of the oldest stories on this album. What started as a completely different idea beginning of covid, became one of the most rewarding musical journeys I've ever had. I wanted to create chaotic melodic emotion with this song. Between the breakdowns and more melodic yet busy drops, once I had the idea down I knew I had to hit up Ghostkid to work on this one. I had become a huge fan of Ghostkid in a really short period of time, and once we got in contact I quickly realized that we would be good friends creatively and just as people. We wrote the song over WhatsApp and zoom sessions with him being in Germany and me in LA. We were fortunate to finally meet at the end of 2021 to film the music video and even got to premier the final version together at EDC Orlando.
5. KAYZO & PHASEONE - Meet You In The Sound ft AARON PAULY:
I've wanted to work with Graham (Phaseone) for a long time now. I feel like we were cut from the same cloth with our musical upbringing with our love for rock, metal and heavy bass music. I think everyone expected us to make some gnarly dubstep song filled with crazy sounds, but I wanted something between us to feel like all of our inspirations growing up in one song.
4. WAR
One of my favorites off the album production wise. I wanted to go quickly between more musical sound design driven portions to complex bass driven sounds. A covid song like so many off this record, I was fortunate to work with the guys in OST again. We wrote this fairly quickly and to me this song is all about getting back up on your feet after being knocked down. It could be about life, it could be adversity on a sports team. War is that song that gives you that spark to get up and go hard.
6. GATEWAY:
I love bass music with super rhythmic sound design patterns and that's exactly what this song has become. I think this song is one of my absolute favorites to play from start to finish. I had a blast working with Jiqui really. He's been one of my favorite up and coming acts.
7. DEAD AWAKE ft Banshee:
I wrote this beat in the middle of quarantine at a point where things felt really frozen in time. At that point there was really no hope of anything coming back yet. I felt pretty stuck with writing stuff to play out at this point with no shows to play. I started to focus some more time on writing beats and things more focused on being vocally driven. The idea of this song is that even though you're awake and life is moving, sometimes you can feel asleep inside and going through the motions. It can feel paralyzing and hard to break out of
9. NEWS FLASH:
News Flash has one of my favorite memories tied to it for the creation of this project. I was up in the Hollywood Hills with producer Tim Smith working on some heavy rock ideas when we landed on what is now the instrumental of News Flash. It only took a couple hours and during that process we ended up Facetiming Kamiyada during the session playing him the song over it. An hour later, he was at the studio recording. He had nothing written down and just sat with the song for like 20 minutes while we played it for him on loop. Before I even knew it, the song was tracked basically first pass through. It was the first time I had ever been in a vocal session where the artist's tracking had that much confidence to just go in the first try and track without stopping really.
8. KAYZO x ATLIENS ( NO NAME YET):
I've been fortunate to play some shows in the past with ATLIENS and I've always been fond of their interesting sound and how they stand out from the rest of bass music. The song came together fairly quickly. I sent stems to the guys literally three days before EDC Las Vegas, and within those few days we passed stems back and forth and had a song to premier during my set that Saturday at Circuit Grounds. That quickly, this collaboration became one of the most sought after on the album. I think it's a really good representation of our sounds and how they work together in a mix.
10. MOONLIGHT:
The instrumental for Moonlight was written the same day as Dead Awake funny enough. It was that period of time where nothing seemed to be moving so I took that frustration out in my writing really. A few months later I had the opportunity to meet up with Caroline (SIIICKBRAIN) at Andrew's (NO LOVE) house for a writing session. I played with a few ideas and when we landed on what is now moonlight, I remember Caroline's face lit up with excitement. She stopped me mid song and told me this was 100% the one and we just got right to tracking in the living room. I think that spur of the moment way of recording in a living room can bring some extra special energy out in the writing recording process. You don't always need a fancy studio and tracking room to get the best ideas out. Sometimes it just takes a few friends, a living room and mic.
13. BOTTLE OF RAIN
Back when I lived in the arts district downtown in LA I remember having Poor Stacy over with Paris Shadows as well to listen to some ideas and write some music. I had already written the instrumental of Bottle of Rain for Stacy in hope he would like it. We sat there with it for a while thinking of ideas and to be honest nothing really came out of it at that moment. Months had gone by and the song was still an instrumental until one day Stacey hit me up from Florida with the idea. Days later I had the song done and couldn't stop listening to it in my car. Bottle of Rain for me is the ultimate car song. I love the idea of having it playing on loop as I drive down Ventura Blvd home on a sunny day in LA.
14. NEW BREED:
Everything comes full circle and funny enough the album's beginning began in Malibu July 2021 and almost a year later the last writing session for Love Me Hate Me was in Malibu. New Breed as a song is supposed to be a continuation of "old" Kayzo meeting "new" Kayzo. I decided to take a nod at my 2018 song This Time but flip it on its head with a 2022 feeling, and a bunch of you guessed it...guitars.
15. SHT SHOW:
What was supposed to be just a DJ tool, ends up being just that really. I wanted to pay respects to those songs in a set that really live in live sets as unreleased IDs but actually release them. I feel like a lot of these dj songs stay in sets forever with no actual release and I just felt like this one specifically blended well with the project and could be. fun palate cleanser from everything before it.
16. Lost My Way:
Lost My Way is actually technically the oldest song on the album. I started this one overseas in Asia in quarantine for Ultra Taiwan. I had nothing but time on my hands for two weeks. I had a monitor, some speakers and my laptop and needed something to sort of lift me up during the process. I wanted to make something feel good and kind of uplifting but with my taste. I worked relentlessly on this one , I really had nothing else to do while in quarantine so it became my passion for the time spent inside.
17. CROWN OF THORNS:
Blosso has been one of my favorite up and coming acts for so many reasons but I feel like we share the same brain musically sometimes. Just like with Graham (Phaseone) we come from a very similar taste of pre-dance music, so when we had the chance to work I knew we had to incorporate all of those feelings old and new.
18. WASTE AWAY:
We've had KALA on Welcome in the past for a release and since that moment I knew I needed to work with him. Something about his voice drew me in and gave me so many nostalgic feelings with my love for pop punk music.
19. SAVE ME:
I met Zack back in the beginning of Covid late 2020 early 2021. He was in the studio working with another artist but I had such a fun time hanging. I wanted to work that second on. I wanted Save Me to have a rock meets dnb feel but make it kinda sad. Save Me is about finding your light and getting back to yourself. Finding that center and doing things for you and no one else.
12. LOVE ME HATE ME:
The scene is a beautiful Malibu studio right on the edge of the water overlooking June gloomish sky two days before EDC. I was fortunate enough to get in the room with De'Wayne and Cheney for a day. With this being one of the newest records on the album in terms of writing I still remember the session so well. It was effortless. It was pure fun. Not only was I able to write with one of my favorite new artists in De'Wayne, I was able to also write with the love of my life. I've been waiting for the right time for Cheney and I to write a song. I mean it's been due, and people have been wanting it. This one felt like the one.
11. POSER:
When Conner Joey and I got together we sat down for a bit and just chilled and kind of talked shop on music and where everything is right now. Over the course of an hour or so we got on the topic of how saturated everything is and just got on a tangent which led to conner writing lyrics. We spat out a little riff to write to and after a few days of joey and I passing stems back and forth we had Poser. To me this is the song of the summer and something I want people to have on repeat at a party, the backyard or in the car with friends.
20. MAKE U MISS ME:
Make U Miss Me is what I always wanted a closing album song to feel like. I've always enjoyed super rhythmic heavy bass music with a softer melodic feel. Adding SEON to the mix only adds to that feel and helps close the chapter in my music making journey.

THE HISTORY OF KAYZO'S DOGHOUSE
KAYZO created a community known as the Doghouse where fans could gather and support each other and the love for KAYZO's music. In 2015, KAYZO launched the first "Doghouse" Event at the Yost Theatre creating fandemonium and a bright future. [recap]
The Doghouse with time grew larger and larger, as did the music and KAYZO's passion and pursuit of defining the "rocktronic" sound he's known for today. In 2018, he merged his passion of rock music and dance productions creating the "Overload" album and feeding into his sophomore album "Unleashed"
KAYZO wanted to encompass his music into his live shows in 2019, launching "Doghouse: Unleashed" which featured live performances from some of his favorite / hand selected bands. It was a huge success.
After thousands of shows and hundreds of thousands of fans, it was time to introduce more than a hybrid of rock and dance music, but also focus on brining attention to new artists in both the dance and rock scene, in hand creating NEW BREED.
